New Funding for 2026: Charging Infrastructure for Multi-Unit Residential Buildings

The Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) has launched a new funding program specifically designed to support the expansion of charging infrastructure in multi-unit residential buildings. The aim is to significantly improve access to charging facilities for millions of residents.

 

Germany has around 20 million apartments in multi-unit buildings with approximately 9 million parking spaces—yet the vast majority of these are not currently equipped for electric vehicle charging. This is precisely where the new funding program comes in.

What is being funded?

  • Wallboxes and charging points
  • necessary technical components
  • Grid connections
  • construction measures for preparation and implementation

Prerequisites

  • maximum charging power of 22 kW per charging point
  • at least 20 % of parking spacesmust be pre-wired, or oder
  • at least 6 parking spaces must be electrified

Delivery head

  • up to 1.300 € without Wallbox
  • up to 1.500 € with an installed wallbox
  • up to 2.000 € for charging points with bidirectional charging
