New 2026 Incentive Program: Charging Infrastructure for Multi-Family Buildings
The German Federal Ministry for Transport (BMV) has launched a new funding program to support the expansion of EV charging infrastructure in multi-family residential buildings. The goal is to significantly improve access to charging facilities for millions of residents across Germany.
Germany has approximately 20 million apartments in multi-family buildings and around 9 million parking spaces. A large proportion of these parking spaces are still not equipped for electric vehicle charging. This new funding program is designed to accelerate the transition to electric mobility by addressing this gap.
What Is Eligible?
- Wallboxes and charging points
- Required technical components
- Grid connection infrastructure
- Construction and installation measures necessary for implementation
Requirements
- Maximum charging capacity of 22 kW per charging point
- At least 20% of parking spaces must be pre-wired for future charging infrastructure, or
- At least 6 parking spaces must be equipped with charging facilities
Funding Amount
- Up to €1,300 per charging point without a wallbox
- Up to €1,500 per charging point with an installed wallbox
- Up to €2,000 per charging point with bidirectional charging capability
